Dear Faith in Place community,
Since the election, I've felt sadness and anger - but also resolve. Our collective power, rooted in faith and a commitment to justice, gives me strength. We need each other, perhaps now more than ever.
Looking ahead to 2025, the challenges to environmental and racial justice will likely grow. While we can't know all the specifics, we expect that the incoming administration will do its best to roll back some critical environmental protections while prioritizing corporate interests over the health and well-being of our communities. Environmental justice protections are particularly vulnerable, and advocacy organizations like Faith in Place may face threats to our work and funding.
Together, we are ready.
To prepare, we are prioritizing state and local advocacy, collaborating with partners across Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin to safeguard communities as federal protections remain at risk.
We are defending the Inflation Reduction Act and other important federal climate legislation by emphasizing their on-the-ground impacts in our region, such as the stories of regenerative farmers in farm bill advocacy and the benefits happening now for the clean energy economy.
We’re also strengthening bonds of community because together, we are safer and stronger.
Here’s how you can help:
Join our monthly call. Learn and connect every second Thursday of the month. Our next call is January 9.
Join Faith in Place at an Advocacy Day in your state. The more people show up to our statehouses, the more our elected officials have to listen.
Join or start a Green Team in your community. Green Teams across our states are doing the critical day-to-day work of energy audits, planting trees, hosting story circles, and other work that makes up the path toward environmental and racial justice.
Support Faith in Place. With financial uncertainties ahead, your gift will help us weather the storm and continue this work.
The path ahead requires deep relationships within and across our communities. When we are united in our purpose and commitment to each other, we can rise to meet the challenges that are sure to come. All of us at Faith in Place remain steadfast in the urgent mission of building a just and sustainable future with you.
Thank you, as ever, for your continued commitment to this work toward environmental and racial justice, especially as we approach the unknown challenges ahead of us.
With gratitude,
Rev. Brian J. Sauder
