Get Out to Vote - Make Your Values Heard!
We are less than 2 weeks away from the 2024 general elections! Voting has begun throughout the nation. Whether you are sending in a mail-in ballot, voting early, or going to the polls on November 5th, we need to support our community to get out to vote and ensure your voices are heard!
In 2020, Voter Turnout was higher than we’d seen in decades, but it was still only about 67% of eligible voters nation wide! The Environmental Voter Project estimates that over 8 million environmentalists did not vote in the 2020 presidential election, and over 13 million skipped the 2022 midterms.
Voting is not only a civic duty but a way to speak up and make our voices, beliefs, and values heard.
It is why it is essential as a person of faith and Latina for me to be ready to cast my ballot and ensure I am keeping up with what is on my ballot. My family immigrated to the US to provide for their families and for me to have more opportunities, which I am so privileged to have today. Voting is one of those rights that I have and will ensure I am using to represent myself, my family, my community, and my values.
There is a lot more than just a presidential election up on my ballot! All eyes are on the federal election result, but we also need to keep up with what decisions are being made on the local and state level. Check out what is on your ballot here to do some research before you hit the polls!
As I prepare to cast my vote this year, I am reminded of the significance my ballot has on who I am and what I care about. I am feeling political anxiety this year (which are valid feelings!), but whatever the results are in the end, I know I did what I had to do to advocate for myself and for my community.
Democracy takes a village! Together we can help to make the voices of our communities heard!

As election day knocks on the door, I am getting prepared to vote for issues close to my heart, be it community improvement or the next climate policy. It reminds me how we have to fight for ourselves in the academic sphere also.
