what′s new : Save energy with Evanston LED exit sign campaign - May 11, 2010
Evanston congregations are taking part in a campaign to replace 1,250 incandescent exit signs with super-efficient LEDs. This Earth Day, the Business Alliance for a Sustainable Evanston (“BASE”) launched “Exit Signs for Evanston,” a simple opportunity to save money, reduce energy consumption, and enjoy brighter, safer exit signs. The $75 per-sign price includes installation, and the high-quality signs are suitable for use in most communities outside of Chicago (Chicago has special code requirements). Additionally, $20 per-sign ComEd rebates help the measure pay for itself in a matter of months.
Evanston houses of worship are helping to fulfill a significant city-wide CO2 reduction goal. The community will save an estimated 6 million pounds of CO2 from entering the atmosphere – 5% of the city’s Climate Action Plan goal for commercial building efficiency. Exit Signs for Evanston runs through May. For more information or to participate, contact caitlin@baseevanston.org.
