what′s new : Central IL office opening - April 26, 2010

Last Monday, over 45 people gathered at the University YMCA in Champaign to celebrate the opening of Faith in Place's office in Central Illinois. Not only did Clare come all the way down from the Chicago office to join me (Brian), but local Representative Noami Jakobsson, along with numerous other wonderful people, came in support of Faith in Place. I rented a giant scissors, and after brief presentations during lunch by both myself and Clare about Faith in Place’s programs in Central Illinois, we cut an opening ribbon to much applause and joy by all present.

To watch a short video of the ribbon-cutting, go here. Be sure to notice how proud I am of the big scissors we rented for the occasion.

Since my hiring in January and leading up to this opening ceremony, life has been busy making initial outreach to over 30 religious congregations in Central Illinois. As we move forward, it is my hope to continue to help congregations build green teams that start projects of energy and water conservation, as well as develop thoughts and actions on local foods.

Beyond this congregational outreach, I also stay busy working at our Statehouse in Springfield for environmental legislation. When in Springfield every Wednesday, I collaborate closely with our good friends at the Illinois Environmental Council. We are promoting sustainable energy legislation, and stopping legislation that is non-sustainable.
