what′s new : Faithful Citizenship Workshop - January 31, 2010
Three rooms, fifty people, and thirty-two congregations makes for a pretty good time. This Sunday our annual Faithful Citizenship Workshop brought together engaging speakers and enthusiastic participants. From lobbying to solar legislation to an industrial viewpoint on climate change laws, we learned a lot. Charles Jackson, Executive Director of the Illinois Environmental Council (of which we're a member) started things off with an overview of the policy agenda for 2010 in Springfield. Then Paul Sheehan gave insight as to how climate change laws might actually affect industry, and Mel Nickerson of the Environmental Law & Policy Center shed some light on proposed solar legislation. Its pretty empowering, and fun we daresay, to get involved in environmental adovacy. The third workshop led us through the ins and outs of lobbying in Springfield. On March 10th, we'll join others from the Illinois Environmental Council at the Capitol to talk with our legislators. Its going to be an exciting day. Want to get involved? Learn more about our Springfield Lobby Day here. And some of you who attended Paul Sheehan's presentation asked for his slides. You'll find those here: public/pfimages/file/SlidesfromPaulSheehanpresentation.pdf

Faith in Place's Veronica Kyle gives some closing remarks.

Guest speaker and chemical engineer Paul Sheehan talks afterwards with workshop participants.
