“Thus says God, the Lord, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people upon it and spirit to those who walk in it: I am the Lord, I have called you in righteousness, I have taken you by the hand and kept you.” ~Isaiah 42:5-6a

Our friends at Iowa Interfaith Power & Light have invented a workshop they call Cool Congregations. It's designed to help congregation members measure their carbon footprints and then lower them - in community and with mutual support. This offering from Faith in Place will bring Sarah Webb from Iowa out to train teams from at least 10 local congregations in how to use the footprint measure and implement a Cool Congregation program of their own. We will introduce the new Interfaith Power & Light carbon footprint calculator at the workshop also and train folks in its use.

You will need to bring some information to this workshop in order to learn how to play with the calculator. Please bring the following about your household:
• car make, model, mpg, and miles driven for the last 12 months
• airplane miles flown in last 12 months
• last 12 months kilowatt total for electricity usage*
• last 12 months heating gas used, and
• garbage produced each week measured in gallons (kitchen bags are 13 gallons, large garbage bags are 33).

Not sure how to get this information? Get in touch with us and we'll tell you.

The workshop will be held at the beautiful and historic Second Presbyterian Church at 1936 S. Michigan Avenue and includes an optional guided tour of their Tiffany windows. The tour is at 1:00, registration at 1:30 and the workshop from 2:00-5:00. Download the brochure below to pre-register!
