external events : Day of Prayer for Environmental Healing and Renewal
“Remember, it is forbidden to live in a town which has no garden or greenery.” ~Kiddushin 4:12 (Jewish engagement laws)
Sunday, June 24, 2012 - Sunday, June 24, 2012
4:00 p.m.
Cal Sag Canal Waterfall
Blue Island , IL
All religious faiths, and all human beings, are deeply concerned about the environmental health of our planet. Nearly every day we hear new terrifying stories of weather catastrophes. We read about hurricanes along the coastlines and tornadoes across the mid-west. Thousands upon thousands of families have lost loved ones, livelihoods and homes because of brutal winds and floods. In these times of weather-related disasters, the people of the south suburbs should gather for action and prayer.
We invite you to the fourth annual Interfaith Day of Prayer to Heal and Renew the Environment. On Sunday, June 24th, at 4:00 pm, people of every religious faith are invited to meet at the Cal Sag Waterfall in Blue Island. There, at the Reclamation Station, we will celebrate an interreligious and highly participatory ritual of spiritual cleansing and renewal for the water, land and air of our planet. We will pray that all humanity, with the help of God, will work to reverse the disastrous impact of global warming and climate change. With drumming, blessings, holy water, and prayer, we will take action together to spiritually heal and protect our natural world.
