Let's work together for strong coal ash regulations
The EPA is currently working on new regulations on coal ash, a by-product of burning coal. Currently, though coal ash can be usefully recycled into a number of products including cement, most of it is impounded into ponds, generally near the combustion site, and those ponds have been too loosely regulated in the past. A lack of oversight led to the terrible coal ash spill in Kingston, TN in 2008 that you probably remember. Read more...

Evanston congregations are taking part in a campaign to replace 1,250 incandescent exit signs with super-efficient LEDs. This Earth Day, the Business Alliance for a Sustainable Evanston (“BASE”) launched “Exit Signs for Evanston,” a simple opportunity to save money, reduce energy consumption, and enjoy brighter, safer exit signs.
